Lxury is Andy Smith, a Croydon producer who makes music with the unabashed zeal of a bright, laptop-loving 13-year-old. You probably know “J.A.W.S” and “We Do”, both helped along by his pals in Disclosure, as well as the Kitsuné-tipped “Never Love”. But stakes upped last month when the south Londoner unveiled “Playground”, a confetti-strewn house whirl with erratic basslines pinging around like rubber bands behind the teacher’s back. Taking that as its lead, debut EP Playground (out June 30 on Greco-Roman) lets loose to show off the producer’s playful eclecticism: “Raid” feels like the Daft Punk remix of a Basement Jaxx tune you forgot you loved, while “Company” belatedly soundtracks that awkward moment at the school disco when all your friends had already coupled off but you were just too hopped up on cherryade and Dib-Dabs to stop dancing. Hear it in full below, premiered exclusively by Dazed.
